El Salvador is a small country in Central America, covering an area of 8,260 square miles. It is the smallest independent state in the region. The country is rectangular, measuring 60 miles wide and 160 miles long, contributing to its unique landscape. Located in the heart of Central America, it has a beautiful variety of geographical features, including numerous volcanoes and lush, vibrant landscapes that attract nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The country is bordered by Guatemala to the northwest, Honduras to the northeast, and the Pacific Ocean to the south. Despite its relatively small size, El Salvador is home to a population of approximately 6,628,700 people. Most of the population is concentrated around the Central Plateau, where some cities are located with a breathtaking view of volcanic mountains.  El Salvador is renowned for its impressive volcanic landscape, earning it the nickname “the land of volcanoes.” Currently, there are 242 volcanoes scattered across the country, with 31 of them classified as active. Among these, five volcanoes have been standing since as far back as 1800 BC! The existence of these volcanoes not only shapes the terrain but also contributes to the fertility of the soil, making it ideal for planting and growing seeds. The climate in El Salvador is generally pretty warm, with average temperatures ranging from about 76˚ to 82˚ Fahrenheit. This pleasant weather allows for year-round outdoor activities, from hiking in the mountains to relaxing on the beautiful beaches along the Pacific coast. One of the most notable natural attractions in El Salvador is the Rio Lempa, a beautiful river that has been flowing for over 2 million years. Spanning approximately 262 miles, the Rio Lempa is not only a major water source but also a popular tourist destination. Adventurous travelers can take boat tours along the river, providing an excellent opportunity to witness the stunning wildlife and beautiful vegetation that line its banks. The river is home to various species, including the American crocodile. These fascinating creatures are more often seen basking in the sun than posing a threat to visitors.
